Saturday Night Sleepover

This past Saturday night Erin, Jill & I had a girls' sleepover. Bobby had a poker game that night and an early morning golf game, so it was girls only. We slept in the family room in the basement, had pancakes, eggs and mandarin oranges for breakfast, painted, did crafts, and just whatever. Even when Erin was three years old like Jill is now, when she would do these little stitching crafts it had to be perfect...any knots or skipped holes she wanted corrected. Jill on the other hand accepted no help. Occasionally a hole was skipped or an error otherwise made and when she reached the end there would not be enough shoe lace. With two holes left she'd take another lace for those two holes, leaving lots of shoe lace dangling at the end. She was, however, extremely pleased with the result. They show the same difference in personality when they play candyland. Erin lays her cards she draws from the stack neatly in a design, making a circle, continually straightening them. Jill tosses them everywhere. Something tells me Erin won't be opening bags upside down and boxes at the wrong end like her Mimi, but Jill shows promise....

I gave them the yard sale tags not used at the sale -- you know..the little round stickers to mark prices on...about eights pages of them...and they had a yard sale in our basement. There wasn't a thing in our basement without a sticker on it. Bobby & I are still finding an occational stickered item. But it sure kept them busy. They sold everything from a half eaten roll of rolaids to door knobs and the walls, etc. etc. etc.

We had fun, fun, fun. I love those girls.

Sure sounds like fun. It is a wonderful life, no doubt about it. They grow up to be confident, sincere young women when they know they are loved so.

HA! Nothing on earth comes close to the richness of these funny and poignant times together. Yes! OK - here goes: permit me a brief soapbox. Is this about the latest toys and video games, or computers for two year olds and pressures for kids to perform? Or to beat out the other person? No! It's about sleepovers and yard sale stickers and swinging in the backyard and fun projects and pancakes and kissing dragons. Yes! Erin and Jill are so lucky to have this! A wonderful foundation being built here that will last a lifetime - and then some. I love hearing these stories. Love, Nana
