Front Porch Tuesday

First of all, I'm finally able to get a comment on the blogs again. I don't know why...I didn't fix anything...just waited a few days and tried again and the problem took care of itself. Anyway, last Tuesday was the 2nd front porch Tuesday. In the Tyler Park neighborhood, the even side of the street invites neighbors over to sit on the porch one week in May, then the odd side of the street hosts the next week. Last week we were sitting out with Rebecca, Susan, Patty, Judd, Kenny, Judy, etc, Etc.. and Patty was telling an amusing story about a neighbor who has just moved. This neighbor grew everything under the sun in her yard...flowers, herbs, etc...the entire yard is taken over - no grass anywhere. She had an abundance of something Patty wanted a cutting of. When Patty asked if she'd mind giving her a cutting, this neighbor replied..."I don't think so." This neighbor's house isn't sold yet - it's 2 houses to our left if you're looking at our house. Anyway, then Susan was telling us she'd e'mailed this neighbor asking her for some ginger which is growing abundantly in the front yard and never got a reply to the e'mail. The house is empty and not sold yet, and Bobby, Susan and I walked down to look around the yard, and I pulled up some of the ginger and gave it to Susan. She now has some "hot" ginger.

Saturday Yardsales

First of all, I hope I'm able to publish this. For the past few days I've been trying to comment on various posts and haven't been able to for some reason. I can't figure out what the problem is. My comment just won't take. So I'll see how this goes.

Anyway, so far this year I'm shut out at the yard sales...haven't bought a single thing. I don't know if the sales aren't as good as they used to be, or if I'm just in that frame of mind where I don't really need anything and would rather get rid of "stuff" rather than add to what I already have. But my last stop today was going to be right here on Goddard where there was a yard sale at 9:00. When I left at 7:30, they hadn't started yet. And the sign at the corner was a rather "low class" advertisement for the sale reading "Big Ass" yard sale with the address. So I decided I wasn't going to go to their sale anyway because their sign was so tacky. But, of course, on my way past their house I thought what the heck, I'll stop and see what they have-Until I got to their front yard. The sale was in the back, but on the front porch a woman was sitting, reading a book, with a sign posted on a gate..."No Trespassing on porch steps." So I just turned around and left, figuring my first instincts were right. I certainly wouldn't want to step in the wrong place or give these creeps a penny, no matter what they had to sell.

This is the same house, but probably different people, who knows, that years ago when we had a block party wouldn't let anyone set anything up in front of their house. Friendly, friendly, friendly...

Mimi's Birthday

I had a great birthday celebration yesterday. Everyone came over and we cooked on the grill. I like the picture to the right because you can't tell which arms belong to who. Jill loves teasing Bobby, usually refusing to give him a kiss. After telling him she wouldn't give him a kiss yesterday, she looked him squarely in the face and told him she was going to give Mimi "7" kisses. When he told me I only got those 7 because she was teasing him, I told him I don't care. I collected 7 kisses. It was a fun day..I enjoyed every minute of it.
Everyone had to leave about the same time, so I relaxed with my book for a good part of the evening - World Without End. It's one of those books that I always look forward to getting back to after putting it down for a short time. THE END

On My Walk Yesterday

On my walk yesterday, cutting through the mall parking lot on the way home, was parked a gold 1970 Plymouth Satellite. Now, you don't see many of those around anymore. It was so big. It sort of reminded me of the few weeks when I drove Big Ugh. Does anyone besides Julie remember Big Ugh? It was her then sister-in-law Carolyn's car. But I have to admit that I don't remember myself why I had it - only that I did. Once you drove that car, you just don't forget it. The only reason it reminded me of Big Ugh was the size.

Three more applique blocks - finally

I finally completed 3 more applique blocks, shown at the left. On the upper right I decided to show a quilt done in the past, since it may be years before I complete the applique quilt. It is going more quickly than I expected, however.

"Hot Flower" definition

The term "Hot flower" originated here on Goddard Avenue. It's a Mexican primrose; however, the ones on Goddard Avenue and Queen Annes Court, in Louisville, and the ones in Grove Port Ohio and New Smyrna Beach, Florida are hot flowers. These flowers came by this name because the tenders of these flower beds are now partners in crime. You see, a certain thief, who shall remain nameless, "swiped" one small primrose from a yard, "actually WAY WAY WAY out by the sidewalk while walking on Eastern Parkway a few years ago, planted it by the birdbath, and now they've spread everywhere -- on the hillside in the back, in the sideyard, nextdoor, and are taking up residence in other states - by the name "Hot Flower" - because the original was "HOT," or stolen.( this is in response to Peggy's question - what is a hot flower?)

Make sure to jump ahead to my next blog and see the derby party pictures. I'll post more party photos tomorrow.

DERBY PARTY FUN!!!!
