I came down to check out the posts and decided to write, even though nothing has been going on. I've walked every day this week, that's good. I've been walking with Jeanie again, and that makes the walk go faster. Anytime there's someone to talk to while I'm walking, I don't realize how long and far I'm walking because my mind's on the talking, and Jeanie's fun anyway. (She's the one who had the job cooking for the lady for $l,000 a week, three meals a week, then cooked something the lady didn't like and got fired). She always has a story to tell.
Judy and I had lunch at the Shady Lane Cafe Tuesday - a really cute soup and sandwich cafe on Brownsboro Road. Do you think we talked about Erin and Jill at all? Among many other topics, I must admit. It was quite enjoyable.
I've caught up with a lot of phone calls today - Judy Ilari, who just had shoulder surgery again; Chris - who's mother is quite sick - and who's entire family is off the wall dysfunctional; talked to Julie; talked to Kathy yesterday; talked to Alice for a short time; started another quilt, along with working some more on the applique quilt. Thought about painting the downstairs bathroom. Checked with the library to see what progress I've made on the list of people reserving books for the book I want to read - I'm no. one now. I shopped at Target for essentials and non-essentials. Cleaned the upholstery on a chair. Thought about painting the downstairs bathroom. Read Leo and Newsweek. Talked to Marie next door about the quilt she's working on (she designs her own (show off). Talked to Brian on the phone, and Jean on the phone. Thought about painting the downstairs bathroom. I e'mailed back and forth with Linda Jansing over and over and over.
Have I lulled anyone to sleep yet? Does anyone want to come over and paint that bathroom?
The weird thing is, my days fly by sooooo fast. I really enjoy them. And it seems like I do a lot of nothing. Except it's a lot of nothing that I enjoy - reading, quilting, walking, talking to friends, or anyone in the family, or spending time with Erin or Jill. But really - any takers on that bathroom? Seriously, I think I might paint it next week.

Willow park
I thought this lady's outfit left a little to be desired, and this man danced and danced and was absolutely drenched with sweat. I can't imagine having had to touch him. His shirt was drenched and the sweat pouring off his face. The man sitting in the center of the crowd - well, I don't know what his story is. But's that's one nice beard. And a good time was had by all.

Name Changes
Yesterday, the Sears Tower in Chicago officially became the Willis Tower. It got me to thinking about all the names that have changed in my lifetime - of streets and highways - too numerous to count; banks - can't even keep up with; in the past few years - Catholic churches and schools; countries - maps having to be redone; airports renamed after presidents, the space center renamed.
I think the street renaming that I remember taking place most was when Walnut became Muhammad Ali Blvd. - I suppose because I worked at Hilliard-Lyons then and all letterhead, business cards, etc. etc. had to be reprinted and such. And it was one of the main downtown arteries, and 4th & Walnut sounds so much better than 4th & Muhammad Ali Blvd.
And of course, people change last names, sometimes when they marry, sometimes for other reasons. And our own Brian let us know about 20 years ago he no longer wanted to be "B.J.," but to start calling him Brian.
Also our local baseball team used to be the Redbirds, now they're the Bats. Is there a local or national landmark change that anyone thinks never should have taken place?

Movie Picks
I figured I might as well do movie picks, also. I have to go with Gone with the Wind, with the handsome Rhett, and Scarlett, deciding she would "worry about that tomorrow." Scarlett certainly could charm the men. And my list wouldn't be complete with Alfred Hitchcock - so I'll pick Rear Window, with Jimmy Stewart and Grace Kelly. Alfred Hitchcock was a genius, in my book. I loved his movies. I need to put The Fugitive in here, with Harrison Ford and Tommy Lee Jones, just because it's a movie I always enjoy watching, or even watching parts of. And of course, I require a Christmas movie - so it's Miracle on 34th Street - the l947 version with Natalie Wood and John Payne and Maureen O'Hara. And my next pick, believe it or not, is the fairly new "Chicago." That musical was thoroughly entertaining. Poor Roxie Hart and Velma Kelly. The dancing and songs were great - can't beat 'All That Jazz.' So those are my five picks.

Birthday Flowers
Every year on Marks birthday Kim gives me flowers. And the surprising thing is, Every single year, I'm surprised. They're always accompanied with the sweetest note, actually giving me credit for Mark being such a wonderful daddy and husband. I'm not sure how much I'm responsible for that, but I certainly agree with her that we're fortunate that he's "ours," if we're allowed to claim him as such. But I really Don't know where that quirky personality comes from. Just know that I love it.

July Fourth Week End
Happy 4th. This is the week end we'd normally celebrate Mark's & Kevin's birthdays, but we're putting that on hold until next week end. However, tomorrow Mark, Kim, Erin & Jill, Brian & Beth, and Judy are coming over for sandwiches and homemade ice cream. It's just not 4th of July without that ice cream. Kevin will be playing golf out of town, but he did get by to sample the ice cream on Friday.
It's rained all day; not too pleasant for any outdoor activities, but I completed another quilt block today. And our day started with a phone call from Erin - she wanted to tell us that she tied her shoes all by herself. Good heavens - what next. Anyway - I finished making the ice cream today, and of course, the chocolate (sticky) syrup, and made some chocolate soy ice cream for Jill, and it's quite good, if I do say so myself. Anyway - hope everyone's enjoying the holiday.
